(Multi defined as: exhibits two or more colours that are distinct and immediately visible and are situated on the alpaca below the head and above the knees.  Example: As per the colour divisions in Section 2d, a medium fawn alpaca with a dark fawn spot would not be a multi.  A white alpaca with a brown spot would be a multi.  If an alpaca has a single spot at skin level less than 3 cm in diameter below the head and above the knees, the alpaca will go into its predominant colour class).

Youth Showmanship Class
Young exhibitors between the ages of 6-12 are invited to compete in this class. Judging is based on the ability of the young exhibitor to showcase his/her junior or yearling alpaca, and not on the animal. This is a free event. Please complete and submit the online entry form by latest July 15, 2010.

Our judge in 2010 is Wade Gease, USA

Wade Gease is an AOBA certified alpaca judge, judge trainer, presenter and consultant.  Wade has judged & presented throughout the United States and Canada.   He is one of the few alpaca judge trainers in all areas of halter, fleece and performance.  Wade is also a certified Camelid Fibre Sorter from Olds College Natural Fibre Centre, Canada.  Presently he serves on the board for the Great Lakes Alpaca Association and AFCNA, Alpaca Fiber Cooperative of North America. He has been co-owner of LondonDairy Alpacas and Alpaca Threads gift store since 1997.  Wade has been honored to be so involved with many different activities in the alpaca world: speaking for educational events, consulting for auctions, evaluating for private alpaca breeders and organizing eight past private trips to Peru.
Wade has worked to produce several blends of Alpaca & Bamboo fabrics.  This has led to developments into the fashion industry and has become a broker of bamboo for blending with alpaca.  Further exploration into making alpaca products a household name is underway.  Wade is consulting with our nations fiber coop and has engaged national shopping magazines to possibly cultivate a National recognition of Alpaca products.
In his past he has been a certified flight instructor, chemistry instructor, co-owner of a retail gift store and has worked for pharmaceutical companies.  Wade has earned an Associate’s Degree in Aeronautical Science, a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry & a Masters Degree in Biochemistry.
Wade likes to bring a personal teaching perspective to his judging because of his past passion of showing and professional educating.  As a judge, Wade enjoys giving breeders informative feedback through his halter class oral reasons and all other educational engagements.

What is a Composite Show?
Composite shows allow shorn animals to compete in the show ring. The growth of fleece on these animals must not exceed 2".

Alpacas will be evaluated in a combined fleece and shorn conformation class.
Fleece will be submitted to fleece stewards prior to entry into the ring.
The fleeces will be presented as a skirted blanket fleece in the same way it would be presented at a fleece show.
The judge evaluates the fleece and the alpaca together in the ring, at the same time.
The fleeces are placed on tables in the ring with the exhibitor number and the number of months' growth visible to the judge and in the same order as the alpacas enter the ring.
The judge assesses the fleece using the same criteria as would be used in a full fleece halter class. The fleeces are judged on a comparative basis within the class.
The judge assesses the alpaca in the ring using the same criteria as for full fleece halter class (i.e. general conformation, soundness and balance). Conformation is judged on a comparative basis within the class.
The judge then places the alpacas using the comparative method of 40% conformation and 60% fleece.
Exhibitors shall pick up their alpaca's fleece upon exiting the ring. Exhibitors are responsible for returning the appropriate fleece for championship classes.
The fleece shown must be from the most recent shearing of the alpaca entered.
